Gladiators - A Cemetery of Secrets

Corinium Museum’s new exhibition explores the myths, legends, culture and spectacle of the ancient world through the prism of archaeological finds from Cirencester.

Curated over several years by a team at Corinium Museum, Gladiators is a chance to explore the fascinating but often misunderstood Romans in a number of different contexts. This is not just about gladiators. It is about how they fitted into Roman society and how they were perceived by their contemporaries.

Exhibition curator Dr Rob Aslett said: ‘I think it’s important to remember that there was much more to life than just fighting for your life in front of an audience and these are people who were slaves, farmers, sailors, emperors and everything else in between.'

This exhibition is a first-of-its-kind project for Corinium Museum – it will be the first time that any part of their collection has been shown outside of Cirencester. Contact Cirencester Museum for the dates

There are many museums and place of interest, with 30 minutes of the accommodation provided by The Cotswold Retreats in The Cotswold Water Park
